The Tajik Polytechnic Institute (TPI) has been training engineers in the specialty "Electrification of enterprises and devices" -0303 since its opening in 1956. This specialty has received two existing specialties at the university. These are the following specialties: - "Power supply to industrial enterprises, cities and agriculture" (specialty code 0303) and "Electric drives and automation of industrial devices" (specialty code 1804).
The development of the electric power industry and industry, the requirements for automation of electric drives in technological complexes and installations have led to the need to create separate specialties with the names "Electric drives and automation of industrial enterprises and installations" (specialty code 0628), as well as "Power supply to industrial enterprises, cities and agriculture" (specialty code 0303). In 1961, the decision-making bodies officially took into account the listed specialties. The graduation of an electrical engineer in the specialty "Electrification of enterprises and apparatuses" continued at TPI until 1964. Since 1964, the Department of "Electric Power Plants, Networks and Systems" has started training specialists in specialty 0303-"Power supply to industrial enterprises, cities and agriculture." In 1969, the first eleven graduates of specialty 0303 - "Power supply to industrial enterprises, cities and agriculture" received a diploma. In 1990, due to the large number of students in the specialty "Power Supply to industrial enterprises" compared to other specialties of the department and the complete elimination of the specialty "Electrical Systems and Networks", the department "Electric Power Plants, systems and Networks" was renamed "Electric Power Plants and Power Supply".
In 1994, the Department of "Electric Power Plants and Power Supply" was divided into two departments: the department of "Electric stations" for the training of specialists in the specialties 0301 – "Electric stations" and 0305 - "Renewable and non-traditional sources" and the Department of "Electricity Supply" for the training of specialists in the specialty 0303 – "Power supply of industrial enterprises, cities and agriculture" (Rector's Order No. 22-3/2 dated March 2, 1994). Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Dodkhudoev M.D. has been appointed Acting Head of the Department of Electrical Supply. In June 1994 Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Dodkhudoev M.D., was elected to the position of head of the named department and held this position.
The Department of Power Supply is the first specialized department in the current specialty code 1-430103 - "Power Supply" (by industry) and the previous codes 0303, 1004. It should be noted that the specialty code has changed three times, but the content of the specialty has not changed much. According to code 0303, the specialty was considered to be "Power supply to industrial enterprises, cities and agriculture." After the appearance of the 1004 cipher, the specialty was named "Power Supply". There are 6 specializations in this specialty, namely: 1-430103-01 – "Power supply to industrial enterprises"; 1-430103-02 – "Power supply to cities", 1-430103-03- "Power supply to defense industry enterprises"; 1-430103-04- "Power supply to mining enterprises"; 1-430103-05 -"Power supply to oil and gas industry enterprises"; 1-430103-06- "Power supply to transport" and 1-430103-07 - "Electricity supply to agriculture". Currently, the department trains specialists in two specialties: "Power supply to industrial enterprises" and "Power supply to cities".
In addition to the specialty "Power Supply" (by industry), a new specialty "Relay protection and Automation of electrical devices" was opened at the department in 2002 (1-530104-03). In 2007, the first 5 graduates graduated from this specialty. The reason for pride and reminder is that all graduates of this specialty have proven themselves as talented specialists from the first day of work in production, having shown themselves at the competition of energy engineers of the CIS countries, held in the Republic of Kazakhstan, taking first place. At the same time, an average of 20 people completed their studies in this specialty each year. In 2018, specialty 1-530104-03 – "Relay protection and automation of electrical devices" began its activity as a separate department of "Relay protection and Automation". In 2012, the department opened another prestigious specialty "Electrical Systems and Networks" (1-430102), whose graduates are preparing to carry out work on the design, construction of power transmission lines, substations and operation of high-voltage networks. Currently, more than 100 students are enrolled from the first year to the fourth year.
Graduates of the department with a degree in Electricity Supply (by industry) work in all sectors of the national economy of the Republic of Tajikistan, including in senior positions. In addition to the Republic of Tajikistan, graduates of the department, who were our compatriots (including Tajiks), have worked and are working in all countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the USA, Germany, Israel, England, Sweden and other European countries. The department also trained specialists in the listed specialties for Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Laos, Cambodia and other countries.
Since 2010, the department, along with other departments of the University, has started to prepare Bachelor of Science degrees.
In 2015, the department began training Master's degree students.
In addition to teaching and educational work, the teaching staff of the department carries out scientific work in various areas related to the department's activities.
Currently, the department employs 11 teachers, of whom 5 are PhD, Associate Professor, 1 is PhD, Acting Associate Professor, 2 is PhD, senior lecturer, 1 is PhD, assistant, 2 is senior lecturer.
Until 2012, the head of the department was associate Professor of the department, Ph.D. Dodkhudoev M.D. From 2012 to 2016, the head of the department was Ph.D. Associate Professor Balaev M.A., from 2016 to 2017, the department was headed by Ph.D. Nazirov H. B. From 2017 to the present, the department is headed by Ph.D. Associate Professor Ismoilov F.O.
