The Department of Relay Protection and Automation of Power Systems (RP&APS) as a separate graduation department was established in 2018. The specialty "Automation and Relay Protection of Electrical Installations" on the basis of the Department of Power Supply was formed back in 2003. From 2022 to the present, the department is headed by Mirzozoda Borbad Mirzo - Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor.  

Currently, the department trains engineers in the specialty - 1-530104-03A - "Automation and relay protection of electrical installations". The department also trains students from other specialties:

– 1-430101 – Electric stations;

– 1-430102 – Electrical Systems and Networks;

– 1-430103 – Power Supply (by sectors);

– 1-430105-05 – Unconventional and Renewable Energy Sources.

 Students of these specialties take courses in "Relay protection and automation of power systems", "Relay protection and automation of electrical networks", "Power electronics" and "Automation of power systems".

In department mainly working young doctors, who have received higher education in the specialty "Automation and relay protection of electrical installations", and their scientific and practical training, as well as sufficient experience, contribute to conducting classes at the required level..

The things of pride and memory is the fact that graduates of this specialty have proven themselves to be talented specialists from the first time of work in production, winning worthy places in competitions both within the republic and beyond its borders.

Ismail Somoni State Prize awarded for their contribution to the development of science and technology the members of the department - Abdullozoda R.T. (2018), Sadullozoda Sh.S. (2019), Mirzozoda B.M. (2020). Boboev H.D. was awarded the Dushanbe Mayor's Prize in 2022 for achievements in engineering, technology, innovation and inventions.

The teaching staff of the department

The department has laboratories for "Relay Protection", "Automation of Power Systems", "Power Electronics", "Electrical Safety", "Microprocessor Relay Protection and Automation", which are equipped with modern microprocessor technology for conducting experimental and research works of graduate and undergraduate students. The equipment of SIEMENS, AREVA, Mekhanotronika, Relematika, Dynamika, ABB and others are used, and training stands based on mechanical relays are also used.

Educational laboratories of the department

The teachers of the department together with the teachers of the universities of the Russian Federation, including the South Ural State University of Chelyabinsk and the Moscow Research University (MPEI) conduct research work, publish scientific articles in the publications of the universities. The teachers of the department for advanced training have undergone internships at universities in India, China, the Russian Federation, Japan and Malaysia.

The scientific achievements of the department are in the research and study of various issues in the field of energy, and the teachers of the department regularly carry out significant cooperation with industry representatives to ensure the connection of science with production.

The main areas of scientific research of the department are the study and development of measures to prevent system accidents, emergency automation, improving the efficiency of relay protection and automation devices in power supply systems, electrical safety in power devices and installations, modeling and analysis of electromagnetic and electromechanical transient processes.
